Truth In SatirePresident makes tone-deaf comment as Carolinians are inundated with floodwaters left by Hurricane FlorencePresident celebrates end of drought in NC with FEMA officials. (Credit: npr.com) President Donald Trump visited storm-ravaged North Carolina on Wednesday with seemingly little understanding of the devastation wrought by the storm. President Trump tried to soothe flood victims in the Carolinas by assuring them that “they can finally stop worrying about drought.” (Credit: usatoday.com) Speaking before a group of hard-hit residents in New Bern, NC , the president said: “I think the really good news, and this is what all the emergency people are telling me, is that your drought is over. Now you can go back to pig farming or growing tobacco or whatever you’re doing down here with no worries about wetness, from the standpoint of water.” The tone-deaf comment left exhausted and overwhelmed North Carolinians perplexed, as there was no drought in the region before Hurricane Florence hit last week. “I’m not sure what he was talking about in terms of drought,” said Mavis Lovell, who with her husband, Kyle, runs a poultry farm near Fayetteville, NC. “We’re about as wet as you can get down here. We need the Feds to come in and help us dry out and clean up so we can rebuild and get back on our feet. No one I know is talking about relief from a drought. That’s just Trump crazy talk, I guess.” Mr. Trump will spend the night in Charlotte where he’ll help employees of his golf club bail floods waters off the greens. “This is a life and death emergency,” said the president. (Credit: https://ift.tt/2OELSdF) Mr. Trump toured the state with FEMA officials, but seemed more interested in when he and his friends could get back to playing golf at his Trump National Golf Club located on the shores of flooded Lake Norman in Charlotte, NC. “I think I understand how people have suffered in this state as members of my own golf club down here have not been able to get out for a round in many days,” said the president. “These kinds of hardships are painful with any natural disaster, but particularly tough on golfers. My administration is pulling out all the stops to get the greens dry by the weekend. We’re doing an amazing job down here for North Carolina’s golfers, everybody says so.” The president is also expected to distribute paper towels to residents of heavily flooded Carteret County using a jump shot technique that he perfected while visiting rain-soaked residents of Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria last year. **** For my original Trump-themed book of satire, visit allanishac.com.
