This Weak in Politics, Vol. 147 (an abbreviated holiday edition) September 3, 2018 Today is Labor Day, the day on which millions of Americans, with a keen eye on US history, and in particular the industry revolution, gather to eat hot dogs and drink beer. Unless you’re the president, in which case you’d cancel your golf outing out of respect for…the heat and humidity (more on that much, much later) and tweet attack labor leaders. But before we cover Labor Day, here is our main takeaway of the week — the president and his closest advisors seem to be advocating publicly for revolution if the Democrats win in November. (We were going to say “fomenting,” but didn’t want to lose any Trump supporters who were reading this because they love Trump and Fruity Pebbles. Oh, wait, let us rephrase part of that last sentence for them: “…but didn’t want to loose any Trump supporters.”) Specifically, President Trump and Rudy Giuliani have begun warning groups of the violence that will ensue should Democrats not fuck this one up for once. Rudy suggested there would be a violent uprising in the streets, while Trump warned that the violent left would feel empowered to satisfy their well-known bloodlust should November go their way. Members of the violent leftist gang MS78 look on as gang leader Nancy Pelosi shows a gang sign after reminding Louie Gohmert she “ain’t afraid to cut a bitch.” As for Labor Day, the president vowed that he would spend the weekend learning about federal employees’ salary increases, now that he has cut them. In other words, the president is saying “I just made a major move that will impact hundreds of thousand of American families. Now that that part is done, I am going to go think about it.” It is part of his ready, fire, aim strategy that won us a lasting peace in the Middle East, denuclearized the Korean Peninsula, and put Abrams tanks into the Milky Way. Trump justified denying federal workers a 2.1% cost of living increase by saying it will help put America on a “fiscally stable course.” He has a point. The federal budget for Fiscal year 2018 stands at $4,094,000,000,000.00. But…after Trump’s fiscally stabilizing move it will only be $4,069,000,000,000.00. Promises made, promises kept. Take that, haters! Besides, who among us isn’t tired of those greedy fucking janitors at the Buckhorn Ranger Station in Sulphur, Oklahoma sucking up all our hard earned tax dollars? “Dead serious mutha fuckas. Say ‘Witch hunt’ again, We’ll bust a cap in your asses.” When the president was reminded at the crack of 11:30 am that today was Labor Day, he went back to sleep, figuring he had the day off. In the interim, his staff prepared several statements for him to ignore and replace with one of his own. When the president suggested that he could say that he loves all union members, Rudy Giuliani informed him that adult film actresses may well be members of the Screen Actors Guild. As such, Stormy Daniels might be in labor. To which Trump responded, “No, I had Mikey Cohen take care of that.” Ultimately, the president did indeed interrupt his busy day of watching Fox & Friends, tweeting, and not golfing by issuing the following Labor Day statement: “Many people don’t know this, but today is Labor Day in our great country. It is a day where we honor our great vets, whom I love and who love me, but we also honor those who create jobs in the labor market. People like…me, frankly, but also Wilbur Ross and Steve Mnuchin. Labor day has a long history dating back to at least Ronald Reagan, but maybe even before that, probably. We don’t know. But it is a special day. Very special. So I want to recognize some workers who are making America great again. Like the blacks. They have it better now than ever, because of me. The unemployment rate is way, way down, and I suspect the ones that aren’t working are probably the lazy ones, or the ones that are disrespecting our flag. Very sad. I also want to recognize people who work in animal shelters, doing things like, cleaning the animals, and washing the animals. And blowing whistles to keep the dogs in line. I love the dog-whistlers. Very special. And how about the legal Mexicans…the ones that came here legally like Marco Rubio, and Julio Iglesias, probably. Iglesias. I love saying that. It’s like Puerrrrrto Rico. Very fun to say. Very special. And to the other good Mexicans who come here and mow our lawns, and clean our school toilets. Spic and Span. Very special people. To all of them I say, God bless me, and God bless our very special troops and our great veterans, whom I love.” In other news, later this week, former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director Thomas Homan will be honored by a group the Southern Poverty Law Center has labeled an “anti-Muslim hate group.” At the same time as Homan is being honored, his former agency will still be pretending they give a shit about the 500 kids they lost. Or the families they split up. Or the American citizens they are detaining at airports for looking all immigranty. This is why we can’t have ICE things. Or at least shouldn’t. Also attending the hate fest where Homan will be feted are Sebastian Gorka, Kellyanne Conway, “commentator” Tomi Lahren, and John “Michael” Bolton. The group, per usual, is meeting in a secret lair somewhere in Crystal City, Virginia. In other words, it has all the makings of a Bond movie. Idris Elba where are you when we need you? The Homan Hate Fest is expected to be the largest gathering of the top names in hate since Trump’s last cabinet meeting. (Note: Ironically, Idris Elba anagrams to “disabler.” It also anagrams to “bedrails,” which is fitting as many of his fans would like to…never mind. You get the idea.)* *A note about our note: Alert reader Leslie M. notes that Idris has two “i”s, thus rendering our anagrams wrong. Well, you know what they say, TWITPOL is all fun and games until some loses an “i.” Also this week, it was reported that the Republicans have aborted their plan to campaign on Trump’s policies and will focus instead on saying Democrats plan to impeach the president. This midterm abortion is the first time in history that Republicans have supported any type of abortion that wasn’t for their mistresses. And that’s the way the weak spent the week in a nation where the president’s Labor Day schedule was clearly built around the American worker… A few more cancelled golf outings due to heat and humidity and this guy might actually start doing something about climate change. Unfortunately, that would likely be him deploying Space Force to shoot down the Soros/Rothschild weather controlling hovercraft. See what we did there, Q?
